Power Tips: Adding Analytics to Job Setup

CAT now includes Google Analytics integration on all paid block and subscription accounts (analytics are not available in the Free Trial). CAT will gather and return data for the these data fields, viewable in Job Detail view, Resource Detail view, and your .csv export. Select from previous week, previous month, or set your own custom date range for data capture.

  • Pageviews
  • Bounce Rate
  • % Exit
  • Unique pageviews
  • Average time on page
  • Entrances

Including this data in your CAT job data is simple, but requires a few extra steps to get set up.

NOTE: This feature is in beta due to the frequency of changes in the Google Analytics API. We respond as quickly as we can to changes but can't guarantee results.

Google Analytics

If there is a Google Analytics account associated with the site you are crawling, you can grant CAT access to that data to gather and display in the job details and resource details. Including this data in your CAT job data is simple, but requires a few extra steps to get set up.

1. Add CAT as a user

In order for CAT to gather the analytics data, you need to set CAT up as a user in your account profile. Follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Google Analytics Account
  • Click on the Admin link in the bar at the top of the page
  • In the Account column, click User Management.
  • In the "Add permissions for:" field, add this email as a new user:

cat-ga@cat-ga-06-2017.iam.gserviceaccount.com

NOTE: If you have previously set up Google Analytics access, you do not need to change this email address. Use your existing account setup.

2. Get the View ID

  • From the Admin landing page, select View Settings from the View column
  • Find the View ID value under Basic Settings
  • Copy the value
  • Enter that value into the View ID field in Job Setup

Be sure that the Base URL of your job is exactly the same as the URL for the Google Analytics account. Note that there are instances where Google Analytics data does not match the data that shows up in CAT. There are two reasons that may happen. See the FAQ for more details.
